Japan July 2005 Trip Report

DAY 9 - Saturday July 9th

Managed to get up at 6am and we were teeing off at 6:30.  As it gets light at 4:30 we had plenty of time.  Matt and I had some good shots and some not so good shots but it was fun and now we have scores to try and beat.  Nils 41 Matt 43.  Still getting used to the greens.

We are at Alice's brother's now and we are getting ready to go to the mobile produce guy.  As fruit and Veg. are very expensive in the grocery store, we are going to the mobile guy who is only at a certain place on Saturday for a few hours.  The stuff is very fresh and very good and much less expensive than the grocery store.  After a wild goose chase through this little Japanese village ( felt like I was in a James Bond movie vroom-vrooom) the produce guy had moved and we got different directions from several different people and we had to get there before all the good stuff was gone or he had left.

We found him and bought some of the most beautiful tomatos and Shitaki mushrooms, sweet nectarines and a couple dozen big brown eggs for super cheap. We got a big White raddish and it looked like a big carrot.  In fact the little girls asked just that.  Is that a big white carrot?   The yolks of the eggs were very orange.  Maybe due to no stress.

Got all the food home and as the sun was shining we decided to go to the lake. Before we did that we went to the bakery so Nick could put in his bread order.  And of course I went into the grocery store and got some sushi for lunch.  They had a sample plate of raw fish to try and I did and it was good so I U-know---------bought some.

Went home, had lunch, took a quick nap and then off to the lake with all the kids. (

The rain came around 3ish or so and we packed up and headed back to the cabin.  Matt, Steven and Z (11yr nephew) went to play golf.  The
girls all stayed at Alice's brother's wife's and I went home to get the BBQ started and work on dinner and relax.  I managed to do a little explore trip to see how far I could get on my own and did all right.  Picked up some ice-cream and drinks and went back home before I got lost.

Just heard the news about the bombings in ENGLAND.  Why do people have to do things like that.  I am sitting on the front porch right now listining to Jack Johnson from inside the house and the rain gently falling on the outside.  I am watching my charcoal made of wood get started and it is so peaceful.

I have a fire hydrant right in front of my house and it is not your average hydrant.  It is a pipe about 41/2 ft tall sticking out of the ground and next to it is a cabinet with 3 rolls of hose and a nozzle.  apparently these are everywhere and when a fire happens the fire department has volunteers all around and they are trained to use the little systems all over.  I hope to get to the local fire station soon.  Put together a dinner of cheeseburgers, noodles, wontons, mushroom, onion and green pepper saute.  We had Z (11yr nephew) stay for dinner.  After that it was work on the puzzle and I checked out early around 8:30
